Warts aren’t very pleasant and finding one on your body can set you into a mini panic; knowing that they are contagious and can spread means that they need to be treated as soon as possible. There are several methods of removing warts and all are not the same.
A wart is caused by the HPV virus. In order to kill the wart you need to kill the virus. How you approach wart removal will determine the outcome.
One of the most common types of wart removal systems can be found in your local drug store. It’s usually in the form of a liquid. You simply apply the liquid to the wart once or twice a day and over time; the liquid will penetrate the root’s surface reaching into its core where it will kill it. You’ll end up with a small hole in your skin where the wart once was. This will heal over and the wart will be a distant memory by then.
This same type of treatment is available in the form of medicated adhesive strips. The strips come with the solution pre-applied to them and all you do is open them and stick them to the wart. The time frame involved is about the same as are the results.
If you don’t want to wait to get rid of your wart you can visit a doctor for treatment. Doctors normally employ a couple of different approaches when it comes to warts.
One is to use a technique that freezes the wart. This is painless and through the use of a special chemical the wart is frozen to the point the virus dies. This is especially effective if you have more than one wart. Often warts grow in groups and having a doctor freeze them reduces the risk of them spreading even further.
Another technique that doctors use for wart removal is called electrocautery which in simpler terms means burning the wart. The doctor uses a special tool that burns the wart and within a few weeks it develops into a scar which falls off. Either of these treatments are effective ways to remove warts.
In extreme cases where a wart is not responding to treatment your physician might suggest surgery. This would involve freezing the immediate area and then cutting the wart and the surrounding tissue out. The main concern with this approach is that there is a risk of you developing an infection. It’s important to note though that a doctor generally won’t suggest this unless he feels it’s the only way to permanently remove the wart.
If you don’t know what genital warts look like, it’s hard to determine if you’ve got them. Usually, they resemble small, pink or white bumps. They may look like the warts you find on your finger, or they may be much smaller. Some are so small that you can’t see them individually, but see only a group of them as a cluster.
Even a good doctor may have trouble seeing genital warts because of their size. It’s also hard to distinguish genital warts from normal bumps, abrasions or pinched skin. One way that physicians can check is by putting acetic acid on the area. When this happens, the warts will turn white. Doctors also use a colposcope, a lens that works like a telescope, to see the area more clearly. These are two methods used to determine if the bumps are genital warts.
About half of all people with HPV, the virus that causes warts, never have any wart outbreaks. Sometimes the warts look very un-wart-like; they may just be a slightly raised portion of the skin. They come in all sizes, and may appear either alone or in groups.
Men who have HPV may get warts either on their penis, on their scrotum, in their urethra, or around their anus. Warts found around the penis are often smooth on top, but those that are found around the anus are often rough, with projections that come off like fingers. Most warts have a pearly but slightly dark look, and the shapes resemble cauliflower. Usually, genital warts stand well off the skin, but occasionally they may be elevated only a little bit. It may be hard to see warts in the genital area because they might be hiding under pubic hair. For women, genital warts look pretty much the same as those that men get. They are found around the vagina, where there is a lot of moisture. If there are genital warts on the outside, you should see a doctor so that they can see if there are more inside the vagina, cervix or anorectal areas. In women, some types of this virus can lead to serious health problems such as cervical cancer, so genital warts should be examined and treated immediately by a doctor.
The first step in identifying and treating HPV is to know what genital warts look like. This way, you will know if you may have the virus. If you find anything you suspect might be genital warts, talk to your doctor immediately. They may be genital warts, or it may be a false alarm. It’s important to know right away.
Warts are small skin tumors that can arise unexpectedly and anyplace on the skin. They are generally round in shape and exfoliate like a cabbage. Warts can occur anywhere on the body, but they are more common on the hands and the feet.
Depending on their location and their shape, there are different types of warts. They are: -
(i) Common warts – These occur generally on the hands and the knees. They are simply upraised surfaces on the skin.
(ii) Flat warts – These can occur on the face, hands, legs and knees. These warts are flat and are almost of the color of the skin.
(iii) Filiform warts – These are present only on the face. They may be near the eyelids or the lips. These warts are fingerlike or threadlike in appearance.
(iv) Plantar warts – These are painful warts that are generally formed on the soles of the feet.
(v) Mosaic warts – These are clusters of plantar warts.
(vi) Genital warts – These are warts that grow predominantly on the genital areas.
Medically speaking, warts are harmless. Some warts will heal themselves with time. But even then, people are always trying to remove the warts because it poses a cosmetic problem. Most times, warts can be removed, but they arise again. However, there are many safe ways in Ayurveda to heal warts with a permanent solution.
Warts may be caused due to any of the three doshas. The dosha generally influences where on the body the wart occurs.
(1) Useful Herbs for Warts
1. Banyan (Ficus religiosa)
The milky sap obtained from the green leaves of the banyan tree is very effective in the treatment of warts. It helps the skin to become smooth and the wart eventually falls off.
2. Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
The dandelion sap is very effective in the removal of warts. The cut end of a dandelion root is rubbed onto the wart so that the milky sap rubs on the warts. Within a few days of this kind of treatment, the wart would fall off.
3. Euphorbia (Euphorbia hirta)
The euphorbia plant is ground into a paste and applied onto the warty skin. The milky juice exuded by this plant is good in the treatment of warts.
4. Indian Sorrel (Oxalis corniculata)
The leaves of the Indian sorrel are effective in the treatment of warts. They can be used in various ways for the purpose. One way is to directly apply a paste of the leaves onto the warts. A poultice of the leaves directly applied over the warts also helps in the treatment. The juice of the leaves can be mixed with several other beneficial ingredients for better results.
5. Rough Chaff (Achyranthes aspera)
The ash of the rough chaff is rubbed over warts as a traditional remedy. It is beneficial in the removal of warts.
(2) Dietary Treatments for Warts
There are no specific dietary guidelines in Ayurveda for the treatment of warts.
(3) Ayurvedic Treatments for Warts
The Kaseesadi taila is recommended in Ayurveda for the treatment of warts. The rest of the treatment methods pertain to the application of useful herbs with bandages.
(4) Home Remedies for Warts
1. Mix the juice of the Indian sorrel plant with some juice of an onion. Apply this on the warts to remove them.
2. Mix the juice of the Indian sorrel with black pepper and ghee. If the warts or excrescences of the skin are caused due to biliousness, then this is a good remedy to eliminate them.
3. Take a teaspoon of juice of the coriander leaves along with a pinch of turmeric in it. Take this on a daily basis.
4. Take a slice of raw potato. Rub it on the wart for about ten minutes each day. This method will help remove the warts.
5. Take the peel of a banana and keep its inner side on the wart. Tie it up like a bandage. Change it twice a day. Keep this constantly on the wart until the wart disappears.
6. Castor oil can be applied regularly on the warts. This will help the warts to become supple and finally disappear. Instead of castor oil, camphor oil can also be used in the same manner.
7. Take a single clove of garlic and crush it, but not very finely. Keep this garlic clove on the wart. Then fix it in that position with a bandage. This helps in the treatment of warts.
8. A similar kind of bandage treatment can be done with the juice of grapefruit also. Put a drop of the fresh grapefruit juice on the wart. Then cover the area with a bandage. Do this three to four times in a day. Continuous application will help the wart to disappear.
9. Apply the oil of the tealeaves onto the warts every night before going to bed. Continue this application for a fortnight. You will find that the wart has slowly dissolved and disappeared.
10. Take a fresh fruit of amalaki (Indian gooseberry). Rub it on the wart several times a day till it is properly dabbed in its juice. Alternatively, you can also put a few drops of the juice of the amalaki onto the wart and then keep it covered with a bandage. If you don’t get hold of amalaki, then any vitamin C tablets can also be crushed and kept onto the warts, fixed in place with a bandage.
Duct tape is one of the most useful items to be found in your home. In the old days baling wire was the fixall of choice but since twine has replaced wire for hay bales it is no longer available for repairs. It used to be said that you could fix anything with baling wire and chewing gum but nowadays duct tape has replaced both items. Very few days go by that I don’t use duct tape for some sort of repair.
Think of all the ways you’ve used duct tape in your life and then add this one to the list. Most doctors probably learned how to remove warts when they were studying medicine but I bet none of them were taught how to remove warts with duct tape.
There are a number of ways to remove warts and range in price from less than ten dollars for a wart removal kit to over a hundred dollars to have them surgically removed. Although most warts are harmless and usually non-cancerous many people want to remove them for appearances sake.
Using duct tape to remove a wart can be considered as a home remedy as you do it at home with a product generally found at home. If you don’t have any at home you can buy a lifetime supply for wart removing for just a few dollars as you only use a couple of inches of tape at a time.
Even though the over the counter wart removers are relatively inexpensive, there is no reason to pay extra for something that works just as good. I’ve talked to people who have tried the over the counter products and got various opinions, which ranged from not working to very painful. Under normal conditions duct tape will not cause any pain.
There are many home remedies for removing warts such as vinegar, pineapple, lemon, aspirin and the list goes on. Most of these are kind of messy or you have to mix them into a paste. Some of them can cause discomfort or a reaction. I’ve never heard of anyone having any type of reaction to duct tape and usually the only discomfort is if you try to rip it off instead of soaking it or removing it slowly.
While understanding the benefits of using duct tape is important, it’s probably more important to know how to use it as a wart remover. Removing warts with duct tape is very simple. Just cut off a piece of tape to cover the wart. Leave it on for 6 days. It’s best to not remove the tape during this time, which means keeping it dry when you bathe. Cover it with plastic or anything that’s waterproof. After 6 days remove the tape and soak the area in warm water. While soaking the area get a pumice stone or something similar to scrape the area. Many times the wart disappears right away but other times you may need to repeat the process until the wart disappears
Even though this is an easy and safe process many people are still skeptical about it working. I have removed warts and know a number of other people it has worked for. By the same token I know of some, who said it didn’t work for them. They may not have been patient enough or maybe they were one of the people it doesn’t work for. As you know very few things have a 100% success rate.
I’ve heard that it is considered so effective that some healthcare professionals have advised their patients to try it instead of surgery or an over the counter cure to remove their warts. The only scientific evidence I’ve seen was in an article written by John O’neil in October 15, 2002 and displayed on The New York Times Health website.
The use of duct tape was investigated by Dr. Dean R. Focht III and colleagues at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash. In the study that was published in The Archives of Pediatrics &Adolescent Medicine, Dr. Focht found that warts disappeared for 85 percent — 22 of 26 children and young adults treated with duct tape — compared with 60 percent of a similar group treated by freezing he wart.
He recommended the same basic treatment as I explained earlier, which was put the tape on for 6 days then remove and rasp the wart with an emery board or pumice stone. He didn’t mention soaking but that works better in some cases.
Dr. Focht said he believed the tape worked in the same way that most other wart treatments work — by irritating the skin, thereby stimulating an immune system response that wiped out the viral infection that had caused the wart. This coincides with what I’ve heard about why the duct tape works.
Despite the testimonial proof from many people that duct tape will remove warts some are still uncomfortable with the thought of trying this treatment. They may have visible warts and don’t want to walk around with duct tape showing. I’m a guy so it didn’t bother me like it probably would a young lady, especially it she lived or worked in a highly visible environment. My advice is to do it when on vacation or maybe you can decorate it so it doesn’t look like duct tape.
Some people don’t think it will work and just won’t try it. Others have heard horror stories about removing skin along with the tape. Soaking the tape will cure this problem. I know that using duct tape to cure warts works so I urge you to try it. It’s not painful, it doesn’t cost very much and it’s easy to do. Even if it doesn’t work, it won’t hurt you and it’s practically free.
If you are worried about trying it, urge someone else to do it and see what kind of results they get. This is a sneaky way to find out, but you might be helping them as well as your self. Be assured it won’t hurt them and you can even furnish them with the tape so that it’s free for them to try it.

Plantar warts (warts that appear on the sole of the foot) are very common with children, young women, and young adults. However, you should know the virus that causes plantar warts is contagious and difficult for anyone to avoid. In fact, people that exercise and sweat heavily are likely to get plantar warts. The virus that causes warts is called human papilloma virus (HPV). HPV is a virus that infects the top layer of the skin that passes from person to person through close physical contact. Also the virus can be passed along through indirect contact such as a floor.
To get rid of plantar warts is not an easy task. First of all, the plantar wart is usually fully grown before people even attempt to start removing them. Also the warts grow in clusters. Plantar warts do not grow outward. On the contrary, they grow inward because the pressure caused by walking and standing force the warts to grow back into the foot’s sole. Plantar warts are known to cause a great deal of pain.
There are many ways to get rid of plantar warts. Here are a few low cost ways to get rid of them:
The first thing you can try is to use and over the counter method to get rid of warts. Over the counter products to get rid of warts are easy to get. All you need to do is go to the drugstore and buy the wart remover. You don’t need a prescription to use them. These products get rid of plantar warts in two ways, freezing or burning the wart off.
When using a product that freezes the wart, you would apply the product to freeze the wart immediately. This will cause the plantar wart too actually fall off in as little as 10 days. The other product uses salicylic acid. Salicylic acid sheds the layers of the skin to kill the wart.
You may have seen these products you can see at your local pharmacy. They are very popular and they do not cost very much. The downside to over the counter wart removal products are you may not be able to kill the virus that cause the plantar warts completely. So you may have to use them repeatedly if the wart comes back. Also, you should make sure you follow the directions. If you use too much of the product you can accidentally burn more than the wart. This could be quite painful.
Another very low cost way to remove plantar warts is called hyperthermic treatment. Hyperthermic treatment of plantar is very simple and all you need is warm water and a small tube to soak your feet in. It involves soaking your feet in hot water to remove the warts for 90 minutes a day. This is a no-nonsense method on how to remove warts, especially plantar warts. Also, it can relieve the pressure caused by the infection.
Hyperthermic treatment won’t give you the quickest results. In fact, it will take months before you can remove the wart. Also the downside to this treatment method is that not many people have 90 minutes a daily schedule to soak their feet. However, it would be nice to have that extra time during the day.
Finally another low cost method to remove plantar warts is using natural ingredients. Using natural ingredients doesn’t include using the over the counter products and have a less chance of scarring on your skin after the wart is removed.
Also, using natural methods may take some time to get rid of the plantar wart. However, most of these methods don’t require a ton of time to apply them.
The options described above may prove beneficial and economical to remove the plantar warts. You may need to try multiple approaches before you find the right method that works for you.

Wart removal is usually best left to a skin doctor or a dermatologist. However, there may be times when you want to know if you can take care of the warts yourself. If this is the case, then you are definitely going to need to read up on the different types of skin tags, moles and warts that are common skin ailments.
Basically speaking, there are four general kinds of warts that you can get including flat warts, common warts and plantar warts, as well any type of genital warts, which are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. If you ever suspect that you have genital warts, then it is best that you see a physician for guidance and/or to have them removed. Venereal warts are always going to need to be treated by a professional due to the type of lesion that they are.
Other varieties of warts, such as the common wart, can generally be eliminated by simply using over the counter products or remedies that you can find at your local drugstore. Plantar warts can be a bit trickier and will at times need to be removed by a doctor.
Flat warts are also removable with over the counter products. You may start to notice that you have a common wart developing on your hands if there happens to be any skin that is cracked or broken.
If you need to get rid of plantar warts, then you might need to seek the advice of your doctor. These warts are found on the sole and toes of feet and can become very painful and cause you to not be able to walk very well. In the case of flat warts, they need to be watched as they can spread and expand in numbers quickly.
Additionally, they can become very uncomfortable and itchy and difficult to deal with. Finding the best over the counter medicine for these warts can be tricky; therefore, you might need to ask your doctor which is the best one for wart removal.
Warts and skin tags or lesions can be a big hassle to deal with, but have likely happened to everyone at some point in their life. Seeking the help of a professional is the only option at times, especially if the only way to remove the wart is by cauterization or surgery. Cauterization is the burning off of the warts or the moles using a laser. This type of wart removal is a medical treatment that can only be done by a doctor.
